Friday arrives

The last few days at work, I've been reading student writing like crazy. Such activity is the most intellectually demanding task I do as a teacher, because I not only read but offer immediate feedback. And I've got to try to gauge how each student will respond when I suggest ways to improve his or her work.

Reading and responding to student writing is the best part of my job; it makes a day zoom by. And I think that students, who aren't always at first thrilled with this, begin to see and enjoy their writing improve.

So, Friday is very welcome this week. I'll try to gather up some energy to work on my own writing and enjoy the returning late afternoon light January brings.
